NATIONAL DRUG DISCOVERY CENTRE
Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research
Melbourne, Australia
Completed
2018
This facility aims to expand the WEHI’s capacity for assay development, high throughput screening and medicinal chemistry platforms to identify promising small molecule leads as candidates for treating disease. A key element of the design process was to work with the scientists and to design a space for robotic systems that were still in development – a process of second-guessing technology.
Thankfully, due to the skill of the WEHI team, it was absolutely seamless and successful. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited WEHI (including the National Drug Discovery Centre) in July 2022 together with Mark Butler and Ged Kearney, the Minister and Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care where researchers shared their important work on COVID-19 antiviral treatments.
