The Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery (ACMD) will be a translational biomedical research and training centre, uniquely embedded within a clinical hospital setting. The ACMD is a partnership between St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and University of Melbourne, St Vincent’s Institute, Bionics Institute, RMIT University, Swinburne University of Technology, University of Wollongong, and Australian Catholic University.
The ACMD will be an 11-storey building with five research levels and four cold shell levels for future research fit-out. The research levels include a suite of Faraday Rooms, Human Kinetics Laboratories, a Microscopy and Imaging Capability, a suite of Engineering Design Workshops from electronics to large scale, and proposed GMP Manufacturing Cleanrooms. The centre will also include a suite of teaching and learning spaces including a multi-purpose lecture theatre, flat floor tutorial rooms and a Clinical Simulation and Skills Suite.
